Caym is a character burdened by his own weakness. All his life he has fled the consequences of his choices and actions, often speaking big words but being unable to act upon them. What he doesn't admit is his fear of confrontation, of dealing with his issues. This has gotten him in bad situations many times, costing him not only money and limbs but also friends.
He never trusted his witch and pretended to not care about her, as much as she tried to make him open up. There was one person who could move Caym and when that person was in danger only then did the scared bird gain the courage to fight for his place in this world.
